European football's governing body has commenced a disciplinary case against Chelsea winger Pedro Neto following an incident where he shoved a sideline assistant in a Champions League match by PSG.
The 26-year-old, Pedro Neto, pushed the boy in the dying moments of Wednesday's last-16 first leg in Paris – a match in which Chelsea lost 5-2 – an action that led to him falling from a chair.
The incident triggered a heated exchange between both sets of players.
The governing body confirmed the case has been opened against the player on grounds of "unsporting behaviour" as per its disciplinary regulations.
"Disciplinary officials will take a decision regarding this matter at a later date," UEFA stated.
The Chelsea player expressed regret over his actions and blamed being caught up "by the heat of the moment" while he was attempting to regain possession of the ball.
"This is out of character for me. It was in the heat of the moment and I offer my apologies. I offered him my jersey as a gesture. I feel terrible about it - I owe him an apology," Neto explained to the media.
"I don't speak French well, so teammate Vitinha stepped in and explained to him I was not like this.
"Eventually he [the ball boy] laughed and I gave him my shirt apologising many times. He understood it was a mistake and was satisfied with how it was resolved."
The London club welcome Paris St-Germain in the upcoming second leg in the second leg, after Newcastle's visit at their home ground on Saturday in domestic competition.
