Revitalized Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from that period of the previous year.

Success also means he has won twenty-one titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on court had prompted observers to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour title, gained dominance to force a decider.

He defended 4 early-game opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
